A Trip to the Apple Orchard

Daddy had a Friday off which called for a trip to IHop for breakfast where baby tried pancake for the first time! Only a couple tiny nibbles but we will get there.

As a family, including baby's aunt, grandpa and grandma honey we went to the apple orchard and found a little pumpkin patch along the way!

We got a ton of beautiful, crisp apples and made apple turnovers, an apple pie and baby approved applesauce as well as banana apple purèe.

What an amazing way to embrace the fall season. Fresh, hand-picked apples and homemade desserts. It made the home smell wonderful. The cinnamon is such a staple for this time of year.

This was my first experience using Phyllo dough. Its definitely a learning curve and you cannot let it get too dry. Use butter between the layers. About 3 layers is what we did.

Make your apple turnover filling

  • Apples (peeled and diced)
  • Cinnamon
  • Brown sugar
  • White sugar
  • Flour

Cook this down on the stove and wait for the delicious aroma to hit your nose.

Once the filling tastes how you'd like wait for it to cool.

The way we found worked the best to make triangles was to cut the dough into strips. Put melted butter on the dough and add your filling to the corner of your strip. Fold over- forming a triangle shape and alternate the side you fold. Keep going back and forth until you reach the end. If there's any excess fold it over to keep your desired shape.

Baby's first time picking an apple.
